Maybe it was just paranoia. Maybe it was because she shifted subject so quickly. Either way, he wasn't quite sure he completely believed that she was okay. Working on it, certainly. But Jamie had the feeling she wasn't as completely well adjusted to Brodin being gone as she let on. Maybe he was just being presumptuous. Even if he was, he'd be keeping an eye on her. "Good," he said after a quick nod. "Well. Not good. But I'm glad you're ... okay."
That was all he'd say on it. When she wanted to talk about it, he'd listen.
"Food sounds good," he said after a minute. "Maybe we could see something while we're out." Jamie knew the spots around here, which were mostly clubs. "Warning," he said suddenly, "Don't drink the tap water here." Before she could ask, he explained, "It's a good rule to have for any city you travel to."
