It was driving him crazy. The waiting. Making him more and more anxious with each passing second. Alec wasn't sure that he'd ever been this nervous in his life, not even during the escape from Manticore, which was saying something. He found himself pacing around the living room, which was only making Turbo fidget in his cage, wondering what was wrong with one of his owners. It wasn't as if this was something new. It'd been in his mind for awhile. Going through with it was something else entirely.

Navi would be getting here any second. She was already on her way, he knew that much, and she'd said she was only a minute or two from the apartment. Taking her advice he had heated up some milk in the microwave and was now drinking the contents of the glass. His heart was racing within his chest and he was pretty sure that his hands were sweating. She was almost there..he knew it, could feel it.

She'd flown home at breakneck speeds, nervously worrying at her lip as she darted around buildings, all in an attempt to get to him as fast as she could. Still in her school clothes, she wiggled out of the cardigan she'd taken to wearing to cover up any love bites she might have had.

Navi flew into the hallway outside their apartment's entrance through an open window, opening the door to the apartment and kicking off her shoes as fast as she could.

"Alec! Alec! Are you here? You okay?"

When the door to the apartment opened Alec thought that his heart was going to explode within his chest. Sweat was trickling down his forehead at this point. He'd never really been struck by this kind of feeling before. It was something he'd put more than just a little thought into. It was perfectly planned, down to the last detail, and he wanted to give her something that she would be able to remember forever.

"I'm in here, and I'm okay." He walked into the living room and smiled at her a little. He knew he must have given her all kinds of thoughts as to what could be wrong. But nothing was wrong. "I need you to stay in here for a minute, okay?" He didn't say anything else, no, he disappeared into the bedroom, and when he came back out, he had a large wooden box in his hands.

The box

contained within it everything that he had ever wanted to express to the woman that he loved. On the outside of the box there was a gold plate with Navi engraved on it. Once the box was open she would see it was lined with red cloth, a long with a silk rose, and a beautiful glass bottle. On the outside of the bottle hung a key, suppose to represent the key to his heart, the glass was stained with intricate designs. Inside the bottle there were rose petals, a scroll of parchment, and a diamond ring. Within the box there was also another scroll that contained the legend of the Treasured Rose.

The words on the message within the bottle were:

Navi,

As time passes I realize how special you are to me.

I love you in a way that I thought was never possible. I want to dedicate myself to you through the high times and the low times. I swear that I will never let you down.

You're more to me than you know. My best friend, the love of my life, my heart.

I'm a better person because of you and I know that my life could never mean this much without you.

Will you marry me?

Navi's mouth hung open, and she blinked and stuttered. "I - wha?" She opened the bottle and blinked when she shook out a ring and the scroll of parchment. She read it once, then twice then three times before looking back at him, her eyes filled with tears.

"Of course I'll marry you, you ... you... silly person." She blinked and shook her head to clear her tears, but just sent them spilling over her cheeks. She jumped over and wrapped her arms around his neck, kissing him gently. She sniffled hard and laughed, burying her head in his chest.

If he thought waiting for her to arrive at the apartment was the worst kind of suspense, he had definitely guessed wrong, because when she took the box from him and finally dug through the bottle, it had almost been enough to drive him insane. His heart was literally like a jackhammer within his chest, creating thunder in his head, though his eyes never stopped looking at Navi, not once.

There was a bright smile on his lips when she said yes, probably the biggest smile of his life, and he wouldn't have been surprised to find moisture in his eyes. he could see the tears rolling down her cheeks but he knew why they were there. Alec caught Navi in his arms and hugged her tightly. "In case..you didn't get the message...I wanna be with you for the rest of my life." His voice was a little shaky.

"Oh, Alec, you will have me for the rest of your life. You don't have any choice." She laughed and sniffled, looking back at the ring. She went to the counter where she'd left the ring, going back to him and putting it in his hand.

"Does it go on a special finger? I've been doing research on weddings for my friend - she just got engaged - but I have no idea about proposals." She remembered something she'd read when she'd been researching, and her eyes widened and lit up. "Alec! Alec Alec Alec! I get to take your last name! I'm gonna have a last name! That's mine and not some person I replaced!" She bounced up and down and squealed.

"Well, that's one thing I don't mind not having a choice about." There were still plenty of emotions welling up inside of Alec, he was doing his best to remove the shakiness from his voice at the moment, though he wasn't really sure how well he was doing.

"Here, let me see." Reaching down to grab her hand and take the ring, a wide smile appeared on his lips again, slowly sliding the wedding band onto her ring finger. At the excitement in her eyes he pulled Navi in and kissed her softly. "That's right, you're going to be Mrs. McDowell now."

	Navi blinked as he put the ring on her ring finger, eyes welling with new happy tears. She smiled when he kissed her, thinking about how amazing it was going to be to be Navi McDowell. Both of his arms wrapped around her body when she nuzzled in against his chest, just wanting to hold her there like that for hours, never let her go. Seeing the ring on her finger gave him feelings that he couldn't even describe. He never imagined he'd be in this situation yet he'd never wanted it more.

There was a smile still on his lips, he'd didn't think it'd be going away any time soon, understandably so. "Since before we went on vacation."

"Believe me, it wasn't easy, especially picking out how I wanted to do it and getting it delivered here. And I know how smart you are, I had to improvise a little." He tilted his head down and looked at the ring on her finger. It made it even more real. It meant more than anything they would be together forever. But he'd aways believed that.

"Navi.." A slight pause as he collected himself. "I want to give you the best wedding possible. One that is even more than you could possibly imagine." He felt his heart skip a beat, he wasn't trying to ruin the mood, just be honest. "But..I don't think I have anyone to invite to the wedding. no best man or anything..but I don't want that to change things. I want it to be perfect for you."

Navi looked up at Alec, one hand reaching up to cup his cheek.

"Baby, it'll be a good wedding. And you've probably got someone to invite, you probably just haven't thought of 'em yet, or they're not here." She smiled at him, shrugging. "I mean, I don't have a girl to be my maid of Honor, I'd rather have Link be my person of Honor. But I don't know if you can do that."

It wasn't any kind of exaggeration to say that Navi had the ability to make him feel better with just a look. Her soft touch was more than enough to make all of his worries disappear. She was the only person he'd ever met that had that kind of power over him, the only person he ever wanted to.

"None of 'em are here." Alec honestly hadn't bothered making any friends here outside of Navi. And anyone else he knew, they just never showed up. "It's our wedding, we can do it however we want, so the answer is yes." He had thought about just sweeping her up and eloping, but then he knew he wanted to give Navi an experience she would always remember.

It was Navi's nature to mingle and flit, and it wasn't something she could turn off, even in the new universe she was in. She nuzzled her head into his chest again, grinning. "I want you to invite as many people as you can." Alec told her with a genuine smile on his lips. It didn't upset him that she knew that many people, the opposite, he was pretty happy about it. There were some guys from work he knew that would come. "Just wanna make you happy." As long as he had her, that was all he really needed.

He kissed the top of her head softly when she nuzzled against his chest. "There's this guy named Sam. I've talked to him a few times, we joked about playing a trick on his brother, I was figuring on inviting both of them."

"Okay, I will." She tiptoed up to kiss him, "But you're the one who makes me happy, silly. I mean, I wouldn't be having this awesome day if it weren't for you, and I wouldn't be happy at all if it weren't for you."

She smiled when he mentioned someone he could invite. "I think I've seen them around. They seem like sweet boys. And it's nice to know you're still gonna be hot when you're older."

"Good," he murmured quietly against her lips before kissing her back. "I just never thought anything like this would ever happen. Kinda..taking it in. It's amazing." She made him feel complete, that wasn't just some trite and cliche saying, it was the truth. "There's a lot of stuff to plan...like location."

Arm tightened around Navi slightly and he pulled her in closer. "That right? Like knowing what I'll look like a few years down the line?" He was teasing her, of course, one of his favorite things to do.

"Me either. I mean, I didn't even have a body before I got here. It's hard to think about love and marriage and stuff when you're itty bitty and nobody notices you that way." She an her fingers through his hair and nodded. "I've been doing research for a friend, actually, so I've got all sorts of information about locations around here and stuff."

She giggled when he teased her and nodded. "You're gonna be hot then, too. Of course, because I love you, you're allways gonna be hot."

"I couldn't imagine never noticing you. You're just so..amazing. It doesn't seem possible." Alec was more than aware that she was explaining exactly how it had been for her. He could tell himself that he would have noticed her, but with the way he was before, that probably wasn't possible. "You know what this means, right? We get to plan for a honeymoon too.'

He poked her very gently in the ribs and smirked. "I can't be jealous for you thinking that..cause yanno, I look just lie him. Kinda defeats the purpose."

"I was itty bitty. I mean, Link was my best friend, and he noticed me, but that was about it." She smiled up at him and ruffled his hair. "I know you would've, though. I do." But all of those thoughts went out the window when he mentioned honeymoon. "... we do. Eee! What do you want to do?"

The poke in the ribs tickled, and she squirmed and laughed. "He does, but more growly. Dunno, you're... cuter."

"And I would've found a way to help you. But that's all past, and we've got now and we're together and that's a really good thing." She smiled and kissed his nose, trying to think. "We could go on that road trip, if you wanted? Or just go get a hotel room and never leave."

When he asked if cuter was a good thing, she nodded hard and grinned. "I don't know. You're adorable and sweet but you're hot too, and I like that only I get to see that. If that makes sense."

"I know you would have. I never believed in fate or destiny before, thought it was kind of stupid...but I do believe we were meant to be together." If there was one thing in life that Alec truly believed it was that Navi was the person I was meant to spend the rest of his life with. "I've got an even better idea. We could both go on the road trip, stay in a hotel room, and make sure we get plenty of use out of it."

He picked Navi completely up in his arms, cradling her, small smile on his lips. "It does make sense. Only wanna share that side with you now. Makes it better."

Alec looked over at her with a slight smirk on his lips, tilting his head to the side, still looking at her. "Glad to hear you know it," Alec teased when she commented about how smart he was. "Or maybe I just have a list of all the things I wanna do to you." the road trip definitely sounded fun. He just wanted to give Navi something she'd always remembered. What both of them could enjoy.

With her body cradled in his arms he walked across the living room and took a seat on the couch, still holding her. "Sexytimes? Kind of an understatement, you kinky little vixen." He flashed another smile at her to let Navi know he was playing.

Navi's eyebrows raised, but she was grinning. "You have a list? Did you write it down, or is it all in your brain? I'm excited 'cause it'll be fun, you know, past the sex. We can rent or buy a car, you can teach me to drive, and I'll get to see more of the country. I want to know everything."

She giggled as he carried her to the living room, and bit her lip. "You know what I mean! Nobody really knows I like what I like."
