Who: The Solomon's Crown group
Where: In ur abandnd tempels
What: Stealin ur artifax
When: Last week
Warnings: violence and cursing.

The temple was large and run down. Years of erosion had worn away most of the outside markings, making it hard to find. But eventually the party reached it, and separated into their groups. Athos, Aramis, and Jonas hung back, to keep the exit clear. Merlin and Lara took point, to disable the traps. Onyxx and Belle followed after. For a moment after they had entered, there was silence, only the sounds of their footsteps disturbing the tomb.

And then that moment ended.

The opening of the cave was hidden between a pair of large rocks. The rocks had obviously, at one point in time, had some kind of writing on them. But none of it was legible to them, even if it had been deep enough to read.

The wind swept over the rocks, making a soft hollow sound, and stirring the sand.

Athos stood by one of those rocks, hand running over the markings with interest as he stood with the two other men and made sure the exit was still clear by the time Bella and the others came back. He had been slightly distant with Aramis since the first meeting, since their argument, but nothing that would make him think they could not pull it together for this mission. They had fought before, had disagreements over many things from drinking to wenching to death and love, and had always pulled together. Mind, they always had Porthos there to be a buffer of sorts, one who either man could go to in order to vent or forget the argument. Now, Athos did not have someone like that, Porthos having disappeared, and he wondered as his fingers ran over the ancient rock face if it was something that was needed, something that was key to them working.

He dearly hoped not, if only because Bella would be angry if they were to make a mistake over something he had told her was taken care of.

Jonas was nervous. He shifted from foot to foot, glancing between the two other men. He knew their names, but not much more, and wasn't sure that this was the time to ask. So he kept his mouth shut, eyes constantly moving. He had a very uneasy feeling...and he never, ever ignored those little tingling he occasionally got. There were definitely alot of nasty things in that hole, and he was starting to regret not going with Belle. If she got hurt on this crazy thing, he knew he'd never forgive himself.

Aramis seemed to be the only calm one in the trio, standing with one hand on his sword, the other hanging uselessly at his side. Of course his outer appearance easily hid the inner turmoil he was feeling over his and Athos' earlier bickering. Shifting uneasily for only a moment he glanced down the tunnel and then back outside, lips curving into a frown.

He was just waiting for the silence before the storm to break. Fighting was much easier than dealing with the anticipation.

There was nothing but the wind for a very long moment. And then there was still nothing but the wind, but there was a lot more of it. It carried sand with it, which seemed to be aimed at the three adventurers. The sound it was making changed, from a simple hollow moan to something that might have been speech, but was too garbled to be understood.

Jonas tensed a little. "That...um...that doesn't sound normal," he said quietly. Oh yes. Yes, he was getting very distinct bad vibes from the direction of that sound.

"No, it doesn't." Aramis drew his blade almost immediately, carefully shifting his stance, able to feel the holster and gun he had around his ankle. It wasn't like him to use such a new weapon but he wanted to protect himself and Athos so he'd purchased it. Casting a glance at his lover - trying to conceal his worry - he finally looked back in the direction of the wind, seeing a few, lumbering shadows.

The tunnel leading back from the opening was long and dark. No light had shown there for centuries. There were many spiderwebs, and now and again you would hear a snake or a rat going across the floor. Other than that, and the sound of the wind from outside, it was silent and still, the air warm and close.

Merlin moved forward carefully, feet planted securely with every step, eyes moving from point to point as he walked deeper. One hand was held aloft, and a small ball of white light hovered over it, casting soft light all around, including some distance ahead.

He was taking no chances today. He glanced at his companion, Lara Croft, and nodded. Magic made it so they could communicate soundlessly.

"I understand you are an expert at this sort of thing? I have entered a few dark places in my time, but usually they are more full of life.

The pseudo-telepathy was a bit new to her, but she had no problem adapting to it.

"I suppose expert is an adequate term," she jested. "This is even darker than I'm used to, though. I don't typically enter dark, deserted, magically shrouded tunnels. Are you used to this sort of thing?"

He chuckled quietly.

"I've entered a few tombs and dungeons in my day. It's been awhile."

He quirked an eyebrow.

"I hope you can handle the traps that are not magical. I don't want to cast around too much magic until I have to."

It was her turn to arch an eyebrow. "I suppose you don't know much about me if you have to ask that. I've yet to find a trap I cannot defeat."

As they entered further into the tunnel, the ball of light Merlin had provided became slightly less than adequate. There just wasn't enough illumination so Lara snapped a light stick to help out. She didn't want to use a lantern or flashlight in case she needed to drop it quickly for a fight.

Just as she was about to turn and ask Merlin if he knew how much farther, they came upon the first trap. It looked basic in nature, and required a complex combination of turning tumblers and shifting tiles. Lara solved it easily, and a door popped open as a pile of rocks that would have crushed them had she not done her job crumbled away.

He grinned, glad to see her wit in play. Following her, he was glad to see her actions. She was good at what she did, and working with a professional was rather refreshing.

He watched her work the trap and arched his eyebrows, then nodded.

"Not bad at all."

A few words and the door carefully opened, and revealed a minor group of short humanoids. They took one look at Lara and Merlin, shrieked, and tried to run, bounced off the walls, then charged the two, wielding little spears and hissing fiercely.

"Kobolds! Ware the speartips, they are poison!"

Merlin snapped a kick into one, sending it against a wall with a bonecrushing thud, and sent a blaze of fire into another, causing it to scream and fall into a blazing heap. The others kept coming.

The altar was a marvel. Away from the sun and sand, it had been preserved perfectly. There was a stone slab with pictures on it, and enough space between the picture tiles to move them.

Here there were lamps and torches that lit up brilliantly, mostly the sorcerer's doing. The sound of the battle echoed and contorted in the temple, and the very air seemed to vibrate with the noise.

If Belle listened closely, she would be able to tell that Onyxx was humming the theme to Terminator 2. He wasn't really sure why, but it helped him focus and calm his nerves. This was the first time he would be doing something like this, and while he wasn't losing his head, he was a little nervous. His mind wandered as he walked, thinking about tactics to battle various different types of golems. If the Baldur's Gate PC games were any indication, bludgeoning damage would be fine, in which case he was golden.

Belle slunk ahead of him, keeping to the shadows. How's it going? And what are you humming?

Might as well keep in communication, for when things got hairy.
