His jaw visibly tensed as he watched her die, and it was like he was on autopilot, as he sat down on the bed and pulled her into his lap. He cradled her close to him, her entire body covered in the blue tattoo, her head on his shoulder as he just held her. No matter what, she was his Pepper, too, even if the other had laid claim to her heart. As he hugged her, he tucked her head underneath his chin and stroked her hair lightly, his head tilted where he could keep his eye on the other Tony. By now, when the tattoo reappeared each time, it was practically covering every inch of him that he could see, and he could see muscle spasms and facial ticks letting him know that Extremis was doing its best to heal him but was failing miserably.
The other Tony took one last deep breath, and his chest fell one more time,letting him know he'd met the same fate as his lover. The three of them reminded him sickly of a Shakespearean layout, the two husks of the lovers draped over the bed with the evil lord mourning the passing of the one he loved.
