Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Tristan and Solvei
What: Tristan is caught in the act! Madness ensues.
Where: New York

Tristan was finally beginning to truly get used to the fact that this new place was much freer than the one he'd left. It was nice not to have to worry about crossing anyone's territory lines, despite the fact that he was usually never antagonized. Most new better than to cross him over something so minor.

Still, the air felt somehow freer in New York than he remembered. He'd taken a portkey there from London--another wholly new and fascinating experience--and then took his time, walking through the city toward his old neighborhood. He couldn't rein in his curiosity at how different the place might be.

The sky was just edging toward full darkness. The streetlights had all come on and the lights in shop windows reflected off the wet streets. Tristan was scanning the crowd, but idly. No rush. He was waiting for an opportunity to present itself.

He turned from a main thoroughfare onto a more deserted street--and there was opportunity in the flesh. The street had a few cars parked along the sides, and about halfway down the block he could see two figures between a pair of parked cars. As he got closer, he made out a man and a woman. The man appeared to be holding the woman up against her car, struggling with her. They were both eerily silent.

He got closer and was finally able to see what they were doing. The man was wearing dark clothes and a hat low on his head, the woman dressed up, as though she were just heading out somewhere. She had her car keys in one hand. The man was holding her up against the car by her neck, choking her while at the same time trying to take her keys from her. Her grasp around them was white-knuckled. Thus were they deadlocked.

It was a simple thing to remove the man, really. Tristan walked up behind him and took him by the shoulders, wheeling him around and into the other car. The woman screamed as soon as the hand left her neck, gasping for air, unable to see what was happening because Tristan was moving so quickly. She lashed out with her keys at what appeared to be a new assailant. She caught Tristan on the arm, gashing him with the ragged edge, but he seemed not to notice. By the time he turned to face her, the man was unconscious on the ground, and the wound had already healed.

He stretched out a hand to the shivering woman. "Are you hurt?"

She watched him, wide-eyed for a moment, then ran around the the drivers side and dove into her car, pulling away with a squeal of tires. She barely misses hitting him as she left.

Well. It wasn't exactly the reaction he might have hoped for, but at least she was safe.

He turned his attention back to the man on the ground and deliberated for only a moment before picking him up by the collar and dragging him into a nearby alley. He propped him up against the wall as soon as he got to a spot that seemed dark enough, and drank deep and guiltlessly.

Solvei had watched the scene unfold below from atop a building. When she had heard a scuffle start she had looked down. Then, what appeared to be a man, managed to easily defuse the situation. Sol was about to turn away considering that no one needed her help until the woman screamed and then she peeled away in her car. Interested in what the savior would do now she continued to watch. She rolled her eyes at what she saw next. Why did it always have to be an alley with vamps?

Yes, the man had attacked the woman originally. Was she going to just let the vampire kill the man? No, unfortunately, even scumbags weren't allowed to die in her world. The vampires and demons were what she killed and the humans that preyed on other humans were left to the law. As sucky as that was.

Jumping down from the building quietly and effortlessly she was now right behind the vampire having his fill. She was sure by now that he had heard her heartbeat. Her instinct was now taking over. The slayer part of her was hungry for the kill. Gripping her stake in her hands the only thing she heard was, Heart. Head. Don't stop until there's nothing but dust. "Think you picked the wrong night to walk down this alley bucko." With that she ripped the vampire from his victim (if you could even call the asshole that) and threw him against the brick wall behind her. Standing in between the man that was still alive, but barely, and the vampire.

Something was different about this vampire. He didn't have a bumpy forehead. His face was totally normal except for his enlarged canines. She knew he was a vampire as much as she knew that she was a slayer... but he was different. She thought that maybe he was just extremely old. No, that couldn't be because in her 'verse? The older the vamp, meant the uglier. Furrowing her brow she continued to stare but her body was tense and alert. "What are you?"

Tristan knew he was not dealing with a normal woman as soon as she laid hands on him. He'd heard her come up, but hadn't had enough time to do do much aside from let go of the man before he was wheeled around and shoved into the wall. He caught himself and turned to face her, preventing ahead on collision with the brick.

And here he'd thought things were finally going to settle down for a while. He should have remembered that he'd never yet found a full escape from bad luck.

He studied her. Pretty, but with a harsh, predatory look. Oh, she'd definitely kill him if he gave her the option. He note the stake as well, and nodded to it. "A moment ago, you seemed sure," he said, his voice level. It was difficult to tell what he was thinking--his face was utterly calm, his tone collected...like he hadn't just been tossed into a wall. His hazel eyes were too bright in the darkness and there was still blood on his lips, but aside from these small details he might have been any normal person walking the streets of New York.

There weren't many times that Sol was confused when she was in slay mode. But this was definitely one of those times. She couldn't let this guy go. He was a vampire but just a different kind. Did he have a soul? Was he like Angel and Spike? No, 'cause they still got all bumpy. This must be one of those things that made this world different.

"I know what you are. You just are a type that I've never come across before. That does not change the outcome of this situation though." He was staring at her with intensity. She could almost feel his pheromones trying to jump out and mix with hers to call her. Not this day, she was not that type.

"If your trying to use your enthralling technique that you guys like to do. It's not gonna work. Been at this job a little too long."

He held up a hand. "I'm not trying to do anything," he said quietly, doing his best to convey his sincerity with his tone. "I'm certainly not trying to start a fight with you. I assume you're attempting to kill me based on the fact that you saw me bite him?" He pointed to the man, who was still unconscious against the wall. "As you can see, I haven't killed him. I'll admit that I seriously considered it, but only on the basis that he attacked a woman at her car a few minutes ago. I don't like to see that sort of thing go unpunished."

The last thing Tristan wanted was a fight. He was willing to defend himself if she came at him again, though he continued to hope that she'd calm down if he was honest. He didn't need to make enemies so quickly after getting here.

Wait, was he saying that he wanted to walk away from this? "I was watching what happened from the roof. Really, I was going to leave you alone... up until I saw you drag him into the alley and drink his blood! And... it's my job to kill you. I'm a vampire slayer, dumb ass." Sometimes vamps could be so slow. Even though I wasn't sure at first if he was a vampire... still!

Yeah, the man that he took was definitely not the most upstanding citizen but she couldn't just let a vampire go. Who knew if the next person he was gonna bite would be an innocent?

Putting her hands to her hips she looked him over. "What's your name?"

Damn the rules. Damn the frickin' council. He really saved her from having to give this guy a few punches for going after the woman, but still.

"Tristan," he said, never taking his eyes off of her. Any second she could decide that her wish to kill him outweighed any explanation he might give. He didn't move toward her, however, or do anything that might make him appear threatening.

"So you're going to kill me for being an opportunist?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. He was a little exasperated at this point. Really, it shouldn't be that difficult to understand. "I have to feed if I'm going to survive. I choose to do so on criminals and those who seem deserving. I don't kill, and I don't prey on innocents. I don't know what you're used to, but I'm not it. Regardless of what your job as a slayer might be."

"You think I won't kill you because you claim to only kill bad people. You know what, bad people can change. You think they have to die? Do you think you are a god that gets to decide things like that?" Wait, did he just say that he didn't kill people?

Really, Sol hadn't decided if she was going to kill him or not. Simply for the fact that she kind of agreed with him. But, gross...blood.

"Haven't you ever heard of pig's blood, cow blood? Any kind of animal blood?"

"You're right," he said, shrugging. "I have nothing to prove what I'm saying is true. And maybe I don't have a right to decide who's innocent and who's guilty. That's why I don't kill people. Even if you don't believe that I do it for any moral reason, consider the logical: it's messy and could potentially be linked to me, which would just bring more trouble my way."

"Simply put, it doesn't work," he said flatly. "Not for anything more than an emergency, and it does little then. If that was an option, we wouldn't be having this conversation."

For some reason she believed him and that confused her. The fact that she was getting more confused by the second was pissing her off. Also, the fact that he was a demon that was using his brain and not all kill kill kill and trying to fight with her was making her question everything.

"This has to be some vortex thing." She said under her breath, but she figured if he had heightened senses like the vamps from her world, he probably heard her.

There was one problem with all of this. If she let him live, he'd go and tell all of his little vampy friends about her, and they'd probably come after her.

He could tell she was beginning to doubt herself--relieving, really. This whole mess was alot of trouble he had no desire to deal with. And he didn't want to kill her, either. Despite her obvious prejudice, she seemed like she at least thought she was doing the right thing. "It sounds like you're used to an entirely different class of vampire," he said, smiling faintly. "I'm not what most people expect."

"Yeah, yeah. If I ever catch you or hear about you killing anyone, you do know we'll have a problem, right?" Solvei decided not to kill him. He was getting his proverbial get out of jail free card. That didn't mean that she wouldn't be looking for him or checking up on him.

"I'm Solvei. If I hear that one word of you boasting to your buddies that I'm a sucker for letting you go, we might have issues as well."

"So I gather," he said, smiling mirthlessly. When would these hunters learn to relax?

"Was that meant to be a pun?" he asked, his face deadpan. "I'm Tristan. And I don't gloat."

((Sorry for being slow, crazy week. D:))

Solvei couldn't help but crack a small smile when he asked her if what she had said was meant to be a pun. She hadn't even thought about the double meaning really. But that was not something that she could admit to.

"Good, that means we understand one another." Then Solvei put her stake back inside of her jacket pocket. "I'll see you around Tristan."
