Oh thank god. He was out. "Can he breathe?" she asked as Sophie hugged her. She wished she had the capacity to hug her daughter back, but her arms didn't seem to want to move at the moment, totally crunched up tightly as she squeezed onto sheets, probably tearing them a bit. "You have to.." she panted, "Clear out his .. mouth and his nose so he can breathe.. and then.. you have to.. clamp off the.." she swallowed, "Umbilical cord and then cut it off.. but heat the blade first and then.. wait a moment for it to cool and then do it.."
She looked over at Sophie, "You.. you'll have to hold him so he can do that okay? You'll be fine, just mind his head."
