He did not stagger when she hit him, but his arms snapped closed around her, and he tensed.
He was not sure what to expect.
When she just held him, his arms relaxed, then tightened, holding her close against him, as he leaned his head in to kiss head hair and inhale her scent,. She smelled incredible, as always, and he just let himself forget for a moment, shut everything out as he held her.
Finally though, he pushed her back a little.
"What's going on Sophie?"
He meant the words to be harsh, but he could not make them so, for he loved her too much, and he knew it now. He figured she didn't love him, but even if she read it in his mind now, what more could she hurt him?
He just stared at her and waited for a response, his mind open to her, trusting one more time. He hoped it would not be the last time.
