Tony just stared at her, and he could just feel his eyes rim with tears again. He never liked to think about her dying, especially from the disease that would eventually plague her. He'd lost Pepper, and he would lose Remy too someday, to something he couldn't control or change. Then he'd be alone all over again. And he didn't even have words for the feelings raging through him when she'd said that.
"Why do you have to die and leave me behind?" and the question came out half like a child who didn't understand death and half like a man who wanted to fight his wife's fate. He looked down at the blankets. "Why can't I find some way to fix it or stop it or..." but as brilliant as he was, he couldn't beat her genetics.
