James had had enough of the singing. He could handle the nudity well enough, but the singing drove him a bit batty. He wasn't really sure which was worse, singing about nothing in particular at all hours or singing awkward truths at people he cared about. Both were pretty bad.

So he found himself seeking refuge at Harry's. It seemed that Harry needed a mate and James could use the company. They both had their own separate relationship troubles. If nothing else, James figured they could bitch and moan about their lives over a pint.

James figured it best to give his son some space. He apparated outside of Harry's door with a loud crack and then knocked. "Oi, mate. S'me."

"It's open, Dad!" Harry yelled, even as he was walking toward the door to greet him. He grinned out of nowhere. Being able to say 'dad' would never, ever get old.

He hoped James would tell him more about what he'd been singing, and to whom. It sounded both interesting and amusing. So far, Harry had avoided having any of the odd things happen to him. Hopefully, that would last.

	James let himself in and locked the door behind him. His wand was safely hidden up his sleeve. He'd been to Harry's apartment before, and it was always nice coming over. James was quite used to physical displays of affection. His mates were the sort that jumped on top of him all the time. Usually naked, these days. But before all of that, the mates had always been the physical sort. James embraced Harry. Once he let go, he grinned.

"I've had a break. No songs for a while." A pause. "Which probably means I'll burst into song while I'm here." That made James a little nervous. There were things he didn't want Harry to know about. But he wasn't going to shut himself away just because danger lurked in the corners. In song form.

It was a small flat, not terribly shabby. But it always struck James that this place was too small. He'd never offered Harry better because he didn't want to overstep his bounds so quickly, but James secretly thought his son deserved a better place. James had grown up wealthy, never left wanting much. He wanted Harry to lead the same sort of life.

"Don't be a smartarse," James grinned. "And no, I'm not really hungry. Thanks anyway."

	Harry gestured to the couch in the main room that was just off the kitchen as well as the entry. He put a marker in the book he'd been reading and shoved it aside to sprawl out on the couch, leaving enough room for his dad if he wanted to sit on the couch, or there was a chair nearby. James flopped onto the couch, claiming one end in his name. He made himself comfortable, as was his usual. James just had a certain attitude, he liked to think he owned every place he visited. Cockiness was one of his vices. Or, at least, he always tried to appear cocky.

"Yes." James nodded. "S'all weird, embarrassing, and sometimes painful. Sometimes it's harmless, but more often than not it isn't."

	Harry knew that about his dad, but he didn't mind. And he certainly didn't mind his dad making himself comfortable. He was happy his dad felt comfortable enough to sit with his future son he never knew who wasn't much younger than him. "And no one can explain it?" 	"Not yet," James said with a shrug. "Honestly, I don't think anybody's ever going to figure this place out. We've got all sorts in this world and no one even knows how or why we're here." 	Harry grinned a little. He wasn't quite sure why. "My life ends up more and more exciting, I guess. Best part is, I've got people now I didn't have before." He ignored the pang of missing the Weasleys, though. He studied his dad a moment. There were some questions he wanted to ask, but he wasn't sure if he could or should. "Really? Did you... do you think you and Mum would've wanted more kids if you hadn't died?" He knew it was a weird question, asking it in the future tense like that.

Harry glanced down, thinking hard. "I was just wondering about you and Mum. If there's anything going on. Is there something I should know about?" Harry knew his parents had been happy. He'd seen the pictures, heard Sirius and Remus tell stories, and yet... he wasn't sure he'd seen his parents together once since he'd got here.

James grinned. It was just slightly forced. Probably not enough for Harry to really notice. Mentions of Lily did that to him. "Eh. I'm not really sure. Up to her, y'know. But I'd like more than one kid. I like kids." That was plain enough to see. James spent plenty of time with Bree and Brenna.

At the question, James straightened a bit in his seat. "I... I dunno, mate." He wasn't being entirely honest. But he didn't want to break it to Harry.

	"I'm sorry, mate." James wanted it to work out. Really, James worshiped the ground Lily Evans walked on. But things between them were stretched thin. "I... I don't mean to pry, Dad." But he had a right to know, didn't he? "And I'm sorry. I mean, really sorry things aren't... working out. I should've said that earlier. Can I ask what happened?"

A part of Harry felt he should be more upset over this. But in light of recent events, especially involving Voldemort, there were worse things, he supposed. The fact that he'd simply been able to meet his parents and see Sirius, Remus, and Dumbledore again was better than magic.

Harry nodded, a bit sadly, but... "Yeah, I think I do." Things between him and Ginny weren't how he imagined. When he'd been pulled from home, they'd still been in the beginning stages of their relationship. For this Ginny, they were already married. It was hard to wrap his mind around. Maybe that was why he wasn't too upset about his parents, because he understood. He rested his arm on the back of the couch, then rested his chin on his arm.

"Did you talk to Mum about it?"
