In the days leading up to her return to Hogwarts, Rose had found it rather hard to calm down. She liked being at home just as much as she liked being at school because, whether she wanted to admit it or not, she missed her mum and dad dearly while she was away and she loved running around with her numerous cousins. This school year kind of had a bad start to it, what with that fashion designer getting kidnapped and that girl dying, but Rose knew that moping wouldn't bring either of those people back. Action was what would (in the fashion designer's case, anyway), but she understood that Minister Macmillan first had to think about what action it was he needed to take. She had no idea why the rest of the world didn't understand that.
She was in Diagon Alley, sitting at one of the outside tables of a cafe, her umbrella a bright green color that clashed horribly with her hair and her lips wrapped around the straw of a milkshake. She'd finished eating lunch a few minutes ago and was concentrating on drinking her shake as slowly as possible so she could sit at the table for as long as she wanted. Her parents didn't expect her home for a couple of hours and, besides, she liked watching all the kids doing last minute shopping with their mums and dads. If she looked hard enough, she could even see some terrified looking first years, wetting themselves and trying not to look like they wanted to be holding their parents' hands. She remembered herself at the age--only, she'd been ditching her parents in the crowd to go get ice cream.
Good times, good times.
She slurped up her milkshake in a very unladylike way, giggling to herself over what her mum would say if she saw, then caught sight of a familiar face in the crowd and grinned. She cupped her hands around her mouth and screamed, "Hey!"
