Alek was slowly waking up. Ella had gotten the Owl thirty minutes ago after having just walked in the door. Perched upon the arm of the sofa in the living room of her flat, she held the parchment shakily in her hand. Her face was blanched, heart beating loudly in her ears. She had to go, of course, had to go see him. She had not been to St. Mungo's yet, hadn't been able to handle what she had imagined would have been the sight that would have been waiting for her. If he was waking up, though, she had to be there, wanted to be there. Fuck, she didn't know how to face him. She didn't know how to see him look at her and know that this had all been her fault, that he'd been attacked because of her, that she was just as much of a letdown to him as she had been for her parents.
Swallowing, she slowly stood up and folded the parchment and stowed it into the back pocket of the shrunken pair of Terrence's jeans that she was wearing. She pulled her hair back into a loose ponytail and slipped on her jacket before Disapparating from her flat to the lobby of St. Mungo's. Legs shaking, she couldn't remember a time she'd been this anxious.
The room in which Alek had been staying was barren. Off-white walls were adorned with no decoration, the only thing offsetting the depressing lack of color were the various vials sat on a table. They were of all shapes and colors and Ella had no idea what they were for. How terrible was she that she didn't even know what kind of treatment her own brother was going through? She spoke briefly with the Healer seeing to him and then, finally, was left alone with her brother. His eyes fluttered but did not open and, as Ella took a seat at his bedside and took his hand in her own, his fingers twitched.
"Това съм аз, Алек. Аз съм тук. Това е Ела," she said, speaking quietly, tentatively, "Аз съжалявам, че никога не са били преди. Бях уплашена. Но аз съм тук сега." Her thumb ran over the skin of his hand. "Ти си на сигурно в момента, Алек. Аз се грижи за хората, които искаха да те нараня. Аз обещавам, че няма да позволя някой друг да те нарани отново." She couldn't remember a time she'd said so many words to her brother--to anyone--without any response back. Her free hand reached up and ran her fingers over Alek's cheek, glancing around the room.
Alek took in a deep breath and Ella looked back at him quickly. His eyelids were still fluttering, but his mouth opened and in the next breath he was muttering inaudible words. "Аз съм тук, Алек. Какво е това? Аз съм тук," Ella coaxed reassuringly, strengthening her hold on his hand.
"Мa-," Alek breathed and Ella had to strain to hear him. "Ма-." She furrowed her brow and held tightly to his hand, running her thumb across his cheek again. "Майка."
Ella's heart fell. He was asking for their mother. He was asking for their mother? If it had been her, even at the age of eleven, she never would have asked after their mother. Her mother had never given her any reason to think that, when Ella was in trouble, her mother would be the one to call for. "Татко." Ella's brow furrowed as Alek moved on to their father and she was hit hard with the thought that perhaps the mistake she had made in bring Alek here to England had been deeper than just a mistake in regards to his safety. Had her parents been more like parents to him than to her? To the point where the first conscious thoughts Alek would have would be of them and not of her? Had she been completely wrong?
Her eyes watered and a few stray tears fell down her cheeks as she quietly responded with, "Те не са тук, Алек. Те не знаят, че съществуваш." She bit her bottom lip and dropped his hand as she wiped at her eyes with the back of her hand. She shouldn't be here. He shouldn't be here. Ella was not the type to admit her mistakes, though, so where to go from here, she had no idea.
Standing from her seat, Ella walked out into the hallway and found the Healer. "Let me know when he opens his eyes." And with that, she headed out into the lobby and soon found herself in Diagon Alley. She headed to the Leaky Cauldron and immediately ordered a firewhiskey. It was going to be a long night. For the first time in her life, Ella didn't want to be inside her own mind anymore.
