"I'll never make you do anything," Theodore said, pressing his hand to her cheek. "I promise."
He hadn't meant to suggest anything that would make it worse, he'd only been trying to help. It was probably naive of him, not knowing all the details, to think that he could offer a simple explanation. She was right, it wasn't forgivable for someone to see the things that had happened to her and do nothing. It made them a part of the problem, as well.
"I'll write to them," he offered. "I'll say... I'm hosting a party, and I need to know the names to put on the invitations. I'll find out which of the Burke girls it is, and we'll get her safe. I won't really host a party, except - well, maybe a party would be a good place for me to get her - or him - alone? You wouldn't have to come." He rested his head against hers. "I'll figure something out."
