Though she stayed quiet as he moved, Katie's body was tense for a moment, and she stayed stock still until he settled into the chair. She had been trying her best to keep all her emotions walled off for now, but the moment he asked the question she knew some of her defenses crumbled. "Everyone," Katie replied hoarsely, dropping her eyes to the floor for a moment. "As far as I can tell, at least. They've all got fog in their eyes. It's like they're not home completely."
She almost thought that was the hardest part, so far, not having anyone to talk to, to confide in, no one she could trust. Glancing up, she held his gaze for a moment. "It's like I went from feeling completely safe to having no one. Absolutely no one. Do you know what that feels like? I don't think you can, because you've got Ella, and you've got..." Her gaze flicked down to his arm and then back to his eyes. "Them. But I've got no one know. I can't trust anyone anymore, I can't talk to anyone, I can't confide in anyone." Venom slipped into her voice as she said, "I hate it." Maybe hated him for it, at least a little, but then at the same time she didn't.
