Zach liked Gilbert a lot as a boss. He was a great guy, really smart, and he was a lot better at this than Zach was. Gilbert was teaching him some stuff, but they had different styles of working. And he was a nice guy, really, which was easy to see. It wasn't about horns or old-fashioned clothes or speech. They were there, sure, but he was just a good guy, at heart.
Zach was eating a sizable portion of risotto, washing it down with pumpkin juice. It was a brilliant idea, a picnic. Funny business or no. "I've never left your table anything short of gloriously stuffed," Zach commented, and he loved it. Maybe she could teach him a few things.
