It wasn't as though Draco had actually expected Pansy's sweet tooth to change in the time they'd been apart, but the fact that it was the same was very comforting. He took solace in habits, in the things that did not change, since his life was so chaotic. He'd always wanted Pansy to be one of the sources of stability in his life, and it was looking more and more like that could actually be possible.
He waited, unconsciously holding his breath a bit as she opened the box. He hadn't really wanted her to leave the gift until later, wanted to see her reaction to it, and he was glad that he'd gotten that wish. He took the ring, and took her hand, sliding it onto the ring finger of her left hand. He didn't care whether it was too soon, if it stayed there for years before they were even engaged, that was where it belonged.
Smiling, he raised her hand to his mouth and kissed it, lips brushing against the cool metal and her warm skin. "Happy Christmas, Pans," he said. It was difficult for him to say anything more romantic aloud, when he was so used to holding it in for his pride's sake, but hopefully the gift would say what he wanted to say, for now. Until he trusted her enough to open up again.
