Romilda honestly could have spent the entire holiday season in the kitchen, if it wouldn't have driven her crazy not to talk to people. And if she wouldn't have gone broke from not working and then had to ask her parents for money. Which wouldn't be terrible, but she loved her job, and loved financial independence. It was so nice to be able to splurge on sugar and clothes and ignore certain other important things (like, say, vegetables) without anyone judging her, especially this time of year. Romilda had bought a few presents, but mostly she just baked.
In her defense, her baked goods were heavenly enough to qualify as gifts. No one she knew had ever, ever minded getting cookies or other baked goods in place of something that she would try to pick out and hope that they'd like. Romilda really didn't like throwaway presents, she only wanted to buy them when she knew absolutely for certain that the recipient would love it and keep it.
Today, she was already in the kitchen, rolling out sugar dough to be cut into shapes with the pile of cookie cutters on the counter beside her. Everything in this flat was pretty small, except for the kitchen: she and her cousin had worked hard to magically expand the kitchen without interfering with the rest of the structure, because it was the most essential part of the flat, obviously. That way, even when they went on ridiculous cooking and baking sprees, there was always enough space for everything.
She was expecting Lavender anytime now, but wasn't impatient; there was an enormous amount of dough in various flavors that she'd frozen a few days ago, and there were plenty of ingredients for anything that they might decide to start from scratch. She worked happily, humming to herself as she expertly rolled out the dough, then started cutting snow men and reindeer, picking up a bit of dough and popping it into her mouth every once in a while.
