It was happening again, Terrence could see it in her eyes. She was here, all here, even the part of her mind that the Ministry had done their damnedest to subdue.
He couldn't bring himself to say yes, but he wasn't sure he should say no, either. It wasn't that he was afraid of what would happen if he helped her reach the right conclusions; getting one girl out from under Complacens was probably the least of his worries when it came to what they could find out about him. But he really, really didn't know what would happen, if it would even work.
He stared back, willing her to hold on to that clarity that she had right now. "It's also sort of like feedback, for them," he said, trying to put it into terms that would make her a little bit wary, but not scared. Fear would only get her into more trouble, if they noticed it. "Checking in with everyone, making sure they're doing alright with the way the world is working."
That was the best way it could possibly be spun, probably. There was a tiny bit of bitterness in his mind, but he tried to keep it out of his tone. It was the truth, it just wasn't the whole truth. But like always, the whole truth wasn't his to tell.
