"Good!" Katie exclaimed for both her and Quaffle when T said he wouldn't be so long next time.
She brought the DVD up to it's menu screen, but didn't start it just yet. Instead she inclined her head towards him, listening as he explained what he'd been up to. There was the faintest, most distant flash of something deep inside when he mentioned the Mark, but it was gone too fast for her to even think about it, and she found herself nodding as she said, "Well, work is good, I guess? I mean, if you like your work."
Her response to his question came automatically to her lips, "I've been good!" Then she paused, her brow furrowing for just a moment, and this time she spoke more slowly and carefully as she said, "Well... I've mostly been good." Why had she been so quick to reply that everything was fine? The words had come automatically to her lips, even though they weren't entirely the truth.
After a moment, she met his eyes and admitted, "I haven't been sleeping well, actually. I've been having nightmares." The mention of them brought up a slight churning sensation in Katie's stomach again, and she found herself growing quiet as she tried to focus on it. It was a feeling she'd been having more and more lately, usually when she thought about those dreams she'd been having, and she wasn't quite sure what to do about it...
