Patience stared at him, not at all sure what to make of what he was saying. "I-- I remember," she said slowly, "But things have changed since then. Things have gotten better. I'm not blindly following them, I just know - I don't understand why - how can they be wrong?"
He didn't have to worry about her realizing who he was, if it was the potion keeping her from understanding completely, but the influence of the drug didn't help her understand what he was saying, either. He was confusing her, and scaring her a little bit, but not in the way that she was afraid for her safety. He just made the world sound so scary, when she'd never had any reason to believe it was so before.
But it wasn't true. It couldn't be true, she knew that somehow, though she couldn't have said how. He was paranoid, and she shouldn't let his irrational fears affect her. She wished she could help him, but there was nothing she could do, at least not anything that she could think of right now.
"Wait," she burst out, stepping forward. "I- is this it? Are you leaving? Should I not-"
Not write to him, not spend a full moon with him. But did she want to? If he was this paranoid, maybe it really wasn't safe to be around him this much. Maybe it was better for the both of them, even though she felt awful thinking that.
