Gilbert practically saw the backtracking in her face, which was confusing. Why would she say that things were tense and then backtrack? It didn't make any sense. Nothing was really making much sense at the moment and his head was beginning to hurt. "Maybe..." He didn't think she really meant this part.
It was all very rushed and things that people said when they thought they'd hit somewhere close to a dangerous place of thought. He felt a bit foggy around the edges. Was this conversation a dangerous one? Had she stumbled into it and figured out some folly? Why would it be dangerous? There was nothing to feel poorly about. There was only one really dangerous conversation and he wouldn't touch on it. "Is this something you're not supposed to mention?"
Maybe it was...a secret. Sometimes people forgot that certain things they said were secrets. Maybe it was something that was just a misunderstanding or lack of sleep. He didn't have the facts, but he could surely look for them...unless he wasn't allowed. He could keep a better track of the scale of human emotions. Anything, he decided, was possible. "Of course. I always make sure I'm alright. I wouldn't let myself end up in a situation where I was not."
He didn't think he might, anyway. "If you need to talk to anyone about it, I would be happy to have a discussion with you. It is usually easier for most people to discuss things, than for them to let it build up for a long time. However, if it is not something you may openly discuss with me, then I suppose I would not be of much assistance."
