It was Quaffle, rather than Katie, who had heard Fred's arrival and his voice. She was too caught up in her grief to notice anything, but her dog heard Fred's voice, knew enough to know that he needed to bring Fred to her. Katie was unaware of anything, until her dog had pulled out from underneath her and bounded off into the other room. She could distantly hear the dog barking, hear the sound of his claws scrabbling on the hardwood floor as he ran into the other room. But she wasn't entirely aware that he'd brought someone with him, not under she felt the bed dip as Fred crawled into bed with her.
And it was Fred, she knew that before she even heard his voice, could feel that it was him. At the feeling of his arm wrapped around her, and the sound of his voice, she let out another sob, body shuddering in his arms. "Fred-" Her eyes were swollen from crying, her voice hoarse, and she couldn't bring herself to answer at first. But finally, she choked the words out amidst her tears, "Sh-she's d-d-dead, Fred. My- My Mum is d-d-" But she couldn't bring herself to say the word again, and all that came out was another choked sob.
