"But I don't understand," Katie said, her voice hoarse as she bit back her sobs. It was almost as if the grief and the anger and the pain were pushing through the fog in her head for a moment, because as she clung to him and felt her stomach churn, she whispered, "Why did she have to go to Azkaban? What- What's so wrong with being Muggleborn? She couldn't- She didn't choose that! Why would they punish her for something she couldn't change? It's not- it's not fair, and it's- it's-"
Her eyes grew distant for a moment, staring past his shoulder, gaze focused on something far, far away. There was something there, some thought just out of reach, she could feel it coming towards her, like the ripples on a pond where you tossed in a rock... She waited in silence, feeling goosebumps forming on her skin.
And then it hit her; the knowledge of it so true in that second that she felt her whole body grow cold as she said with conviction, "It's wrong." Her gaze flicked to T's, her voice so quiet it was almost inaudible. "It's wrong, but somehow it's not wrong, and that- that is wrong." Maybe that didn't make sense, but it was the only way she could explain what she was thinking, and she stared at him with wide eyes, searching for some sign that he understood.
