There wasn't really any use pressing the point, but Terrence didn't really know what else to do. He couldn't take it back, couldn't make it untrue, and he didn't know what would help Katie right now. Didn't have the faintest clue what it would be like to grieve a parent, and he hadn't lost anyone he'd really cared about since he was five. He wasn't uncomfortable with displays of emotion, just failed to empathize with them, most of the time.
He would have offered her a hug, but she was curled up with Quaffle. Instead, he shifted a little closer and touched her shoulder, as if trying to reassure her, but there wasn't much to reassure her about. Her mother was dead, had been dead all this time.
Had he been selfish, wanting to break through her blissful ignorance and help her face reality? Or had he really done it for her? He'd thought it was the latter, but he was doubting whether this was really better, now that he was seeing her reaction. Damn it.
