The only reason Terrence was like that was because he worked better when he was going off his own intuition, rather than someone else's instructions. He'd never used a cookbook, he'd started transfiguring his body into parts of random animals before he tried the spell to become an Animagus, he'd jumped into Ella's scheme with Weasley without any real plan or idea of what he was planning to get out of it.
Even if he didn't manage to come up with something new and innovative, accomplishing a task from his own skill was always far more satisfying than doing it someone else's way. Of course, sometimes he ended up doing it exactly how the instructions would have said, but that wasn't the point. That just meant that either the book had the most interesting way to do it (not always true), or there really was only one way to get the right result.
"Not sure you're supposed to use hunting partners as archery practice," he said with a laugh. "Unless they've got a bunch of concentric circles making targets on their backs, instead of Marks on their arms. But there are people that are fun to hunt with, you know. We exist."
He grinned. "Doesn't have to be someone you have a grudge against. How do shirtless muggles painted up as targets sound? Or we could scrap the paint jobs if you want, it's just an amusing mental image."
