Terrence was watching Katie closely, though as subtly as he could. There had to be some kind of emotional conflict for her, right? Or could the potion make her entirely satisfied with the news that her mother might be in jail? He had experienced a certain level of frustration with Ella's actions, even though it had taken him years to get there. But this was her mother being in jail they were talking about, not her significant other having to leave for an hour or so.
Wrong, he wanted to say. It was on the tip of his tongue, but he didn't say it. Fuck, it was terrible - this combination of blissful ignorance and unquestioning allegiance to the Ministry.
At least for him, his allegiances were mostly tied in to the Death Eaters anyway, with Ella already Marked, and he would never classify himself as a good person. Katie was a good person, and the good people she cared about were getting hurt. Because she was Terrence's friend, that mattered.
"Yeah," he said, smiling back. "I try. I think I might be a better pirate than friend, though." His smile widened into a grin again, and he took his sword from his belt. "Got your sea legs enough for a sea duel, Sir First Mate Fluffy-pants?"
