Gilbert tensed at first as he was spotted. He reasoned quietly with himself that one must be calm and express no fear. You read about this in your books, the little voice in his mind reminded him. So when the dog and his owner came over, he was calm and expressed no emotions that would be seen as dangerous.
"Hello," he said softly. "I am Gilbert. It is lovely to meet you both. I am sorry if I have interrupted anything." He smiled a little. "I promise I wouldn't do anything dangerous. I'm really quite docile unless you have done something to make me otherwise. And you have done nothing of the sort, so I shouldn't need to do anything unfortunate." He held out his hand to King. "You can decide for yourself if you trust me, King."
