Aurora's answer to Serafina's note had taken her completely by surprise. Serafina was expecting the Minister to be holding the gala in honor of something, and so far as she knew, something that Barty Crouch would enjoy honoring had been something that Aurora would enjoy as well. Clearly, she was behind on what was happening in their relationship.
Since both Barty and Aurora were people that Serafina considered friends, she was not invested in this for the information and politics of it. Aurora especially had always been a good friend of hers, and if Barty had done something to make her unhappy - cheated, or otherwise betrayed her trust, for instance - Serafina would likely be inclined to take Aurora's side. But she would, of course, hear all the details before she formed her own opinion. Getting involved in the relationships of others was not usually her style, her own relationships were quite enough for her to deal with, most of the time.
Yet here she was, a single widower, currently in her house in France, with her puppy and her elf for company. The puppy had been named Henri (after Henry IV, or Henri le Grand), though privately Serafina often called him Rascal - because that was precisely what he was. Henri was fantastic company, growing bigger with every passing day, and had already learned to be careful with all the lovely things in the house, though he was allowed on certain couches and chairs while Serafina was present.
"You're going to be on your best behavior while Aurora is here, Rascal," Serafina informed Henri, from where she had settled herself on the couch in the sitting room. Henri looked up from where he had flopped down at her feet, giving her a puppyish grin that made her smile. There was tea, and wine, and whatever else Aurora might like, but Serafina was discovering that Henri himself could do wonders to improve one's mood.
Assuming one liked dogs. Aurora had yet to meet him, but Serafina hoped he would be able to cheer her friend.
