"Ah," Tonks said, with the faintest of smirks. "But I don't have to go as a human."
Okay, so maybe she shouldn't tease him so much. It was just that she wanted to do whatever she could to lighten his mood, and she thought a bit of playfulness might help. But then again, maybe if she just came out of the surprise, that would cheer him up more.
Still smiling, she pulled back and rose to his feet. She met his eyes with a hint of a mischievous smile as she said, "You really should do some reading up on Metamorphmagi. Didn't you know we're not limited to human shapes?" And with that, she focused all her concentration, screwing up her face for just a moment... and then her body shifted, changing not into another human, but into a wolf.
Her front paws hit the ground with a thump, and she shook herself out, furry gray tail waving like a banner as she gave him a wolf's version of a smile. Full of excitement, and obviously pleased with herself, she spun in a circle, claws clicking on the hardwood floors. When she came to a stop in front of him, she barked once before she jumped up to place a paw on either of his knees. Wolf eyes met his human eyes for one second, and then she stretched her neck out and gave his face a big happy lick.
