Luckily for Dean, Kevin understood both mental distraction in general and also distraction when it came to meeting people that you liked. He had never been in quite Dean's situation before, but he followed Dean's trains of thought as best he could, except for when his mind went off on other tangents, and that was fine, too.
As they drove, he had the Styx tape playing, the one that had been stuck in the car almost since he'd bought it. There was a radio too, but he hadn't listened to the tape in a while, so he didn't mind. Really, if he'd minded the tape being stuck, he would have gotten it out a long time ago - taking things like tape decks apart were what he loved to do most. It was a sign of how much he liked the music and thought it a nice part of Samwise's quirky personality to have a stuck tape that he hadn't done it yet.
"That might happen," Kevin conceded, when Dean spoke up. "And you know what, if it does, then you'll know, and you won't have to worry about it anymore. It'll suck, but you'll still have me and Sniffles - and Misty the cat, until Thursday - and we'll do something to make you feel better, like get some of Maddy Fortescue's awesome ice cream, or drive around and sing at the top of our lungs, or sit around and watch movies until we have to move out of the house again." He shot a brief grin at Dean before returning his eyes to the road. "It's probably a slim chance of that happening, but it won't be the end of the world, okay? So don't worry, he probably likes you too."
He did a little drum beat on the steering wheel for emphasis. "You want to talk about hugs? Because if you get me started, I will ramble on and on about them, and it might be hard to stop me."
