There were woods nearby, Kevin knew that. Probably no official camping sites, but that hadn't stopped him in the past. If nothing else, this seemed like a sparse enough neighborhood, few enough people around that he could probably get away with spending the night in his car. He had been doing the camping or car-sleeping thing a lot more often lately, not because he'd been making less money, but because he was attempting to try this thing people called saving their money for a rainy day.
It had been working pretty well, so far. He had just over fifty bucks stashed in the back with his things, all in bills so that Sniffles wouldn't find them shiny and attractive food, and he had a bit of money in his pocket as well. In truth, as much as he liked being in a hotel (beds, showers, amenities, television, etc), none of them ever really felt like home as much as his car and tent did.
He was in a good mood, but getting tired, and getting a little reckless with driving as he made his way along the empty streets, seeing whether he could drive with just one finger, and which finger would be best for retaining control over the steering wheel. And then, as he came roaring around a corner, there was a person in the middle of the road. Kevin grabbed the wheel quickly with both hands and turned it hard away from the pedestrian, slamming on his brakes as he did so.
It took him a moment to recover and catch his breath enough to put the car in park, remove his seatbelt and jump out, closing the door to keep his mischievous Niffler from getting out and attracting attention to the fact that he wasn't a Muggle. "Oh my god I'm sorry are you alright?" he asked in one breath. "If you're hurt, it's alright, I have a first aid kit and some medical texts, you'll be just fine! But I don't think I hit you, did I hit you?"
