"Indeed," Ella laughed, "I think we'd have bigger problems than sexually transmitted lycanthropy if it meant you'd been involved with a canine. And, yes, she definitely had his blood in her veins. She had a piece of his soul and his blood. Every time she thought they could never get closer than they were, something happened like her almost turning into a vampire. She closed her eyes for a moment, a smile on her face as she leaned back, her neck pressing against his hand. This was completely worth sacrificing her serval, even if she hadn't had the choice.
"Yes," she said, opening her eyes and grinning puckishly again, "we'll train them to fetch you dinner. And to grow pumpkins in the garden for me," she added with a laugh. "Best hawks ever, just saying."
