"Pick-up Quidditch sounds awesome," Terrence said with a grin. "I'd suggest we bring the brooms to the beach, but there might be too much going on. Besides, we don't want to try to cram all our awesome into one event, do we?"
He concentrated on that to keep his expression from changing at what she said next. He was expecting her to say that her mother was dead, but taken away by the Ministry? If the Ministry did it, I'm sure it was for a good reason, right?
He almost agreed, but his mind, which had been fighting the potion he was under for a few days now, knew that it wasn't so simple. It hadn't even occurred to him yet to be concerned with the fact that other people, everyone he knew that wasn't wearing the Mark, were under the influence - but it was obvious that K was. Merlin, the potion could keep her from protesting when her mother was taken away. It was still preventing him from being able to fully formulate the reasons why that was wrong, even though he knew perfectly well that he wasn't making up his own mind about it.
"Yeah," he said, after a brief pause to think that through. He had to agree; he wasn't supposed to know what he knew. He wasn't risking his future, not just the Mark but his life with Ella, for a girl he barely even knew. "I'm sure she is."
