"Merlin," she breathed with a huff. "You're so ridiculous. Paranoid, controlling. What is it you're always trying to make up for?" Despite her words edging toward being mean, her voice was actually getting softer. She wanted two different things at the same time and wasn't sure which one to pick. There was baiting him, telling him to just get it over with and leaving - but there was the danger of him actually saying something and getting her in trouble - or doing everything she could to make him believe her.
In the end, she knew the second option would benefit both of them the most. While she did want to push him to the edge, she didn't want to get caught in an investigation before she ever got to the truth. She didn't want to be an outlaw like Heather, running for her life. Demelza got closer to him and put her hands on either side of his face, looking directly into his eyes.
"I'm not speaking to outlaws. I wouldn't do anything that would cause me to be one of them and wouldn't put either of us in danger. If you really think it would be best to give her information over now...I guess I could do that. I just want you to trust me."
