"Yes, something else," Theodore said. "Something like what Colin is offering. Something other than what you've planned all along. I think, though - and I hesitate to speak for Colin, but this is what I understand from what he wrote - that what he most fears is being less important to you. That having a wife, or a mother of your child, would involve them taking priority over him, in your life, and your affections. If you can find an arrangement he's comfortable with, you may not have to actively defy your father's expectations, or give up on the idea of having children that are yours, with the mother being involved."
He understood how, in an emotional state, it could seem as though there were only two options. That was not how it appeared to Theodore, however. "You should tell him how you feel about him, Zach. All of it. Tell him whether or not you'd be willing to defy your father for him, even if you don't end up doing it." He smiled. "And I will always step in to save your life, if needed. I was mostly talking about moral support, though."
