Deciphering exactly how Zach meant to answer his question from everything he was saying wasn't very easy, even for Theodore, who was fairly accustomed to the way Zach could run in emotional circles while he talked. He did grasp some logical points: the fact that it was important to involve the mother of the child (or children) in their lives, that he didn't want Colin to be the one to confront his father, but then - he didn't seem entirely opposed to the idea of confronting his father himself. That seemed important.
"It might be more difficult because there isn't another person to consider, yet," he said reasonably. "Is there? Of course, you'd pick a woman based completely on her willingness to be a part of the family you're proposing, I imagine, but she'd have emotions and desires of her own to deal with, too. I don't think it's very easy to form that sort of family in a way that works, Zach - that's probably why it's rare, though that doesn't mean it can't be done." He looked at Zach sympathetically. "Since you've brought it up with him before there's a third party involved, though - which was probably for the best, all things considered - you still have the option to choose something else. For what it's worth," he said with a small smile, "I would support you in going against your family's expectations of you, if it was really what you wanted."
