Emmeline had barely slept since the battle, though she had forced herself to rest. It was enough, and she was not about to linger around at home. She had also been treated, briefly, for the loss of her ear; her hair was down now, covering the bandage on the side of her face, though not for that particular purpose. She was not especially vain, though she thought she might make more of an effort with her appearance once she wasn't dressing with her own safety at the forefront of her mind. Once she allowed herself other reasons to get dressed nicely - reasons like Kingsley, for instance.
For now, though, safety and the future of the world were still foremost on her mind. She was on patrol of wizarding areas, window-shopping and browsing, stopping at cafes and pubs to see if she could overhear any gossip. She had done, but nothing terribly useful had caught her eye or her ear so far.
Until she was in line for coffee (which was not only for the sake of talking to the cafe's patrons, but to keep her awake), and a familiar name caught her attention. "Barty Crouch?" she asked mildly, a curious light in her expression. It was possible it was another Barty, of course, but there was no harm in finding out for sure.
