Theodore could see his own exhaustion reflected in Tracey's expression, perhaps magnified, though he hadn't looked at himself in the mirror. She was less accustomed to this kind of continuous work than he was, and he felt bad for it, though he knew that she would not have done it against her will. He reached out for her, framing her tired but beautiful face in his hands, and smiled.
"I know," he said. "I intend to keep that promise."
It was so quiet and calm, compared to the last days, even just standing here with her. He lowered one hand to take his wand again, performing a spell to check her health instinctively, easier than breathing (and thank Merlin for that, he'd needed to perform it more times than he could count recently). Then he took her hand, and turned on the spot, Apparating them back home.
He didn't head immediately for bed, but wrapped his arms around her shoulders and held her close, resting his head against hers. "You're incredible, you know," he said. "Everything you've done to help people."
