This time it was Tonks' turn to glance down at her hands when Remus cupped them with his own. She could have sworn the tiniest of shivers went through her at the touch, though she had no idea why. Certainly it made her hands feel warmer, perhaps with the support he was intending to give. "That could be why," she replied slowly, in response to his remark about his true nature, "Or it could be something else. Proximity, or... perhaps the fact that you're not living amongst society the way we all are?" There was something there, something niggling at the back of her mind that she wasn't quite getting.
"My Dad..." She blinked, shaking her head. "I don't know what happened to him. He disappeared a few months ago, Mum said he'd packed a few things and said he'd be back when it was safe? But it's been months now without any word, and neither of us even cared... until now."
Her eyes met his, and when he called her 'Dora', she felt another... something stirring inside her. Partially because yes, that was what her Dad called her. But also because there was something about the way he said that nickname that made her like it. "You're not a monster, Remus." She said the words with conviction, truly believing them.
Then she listened to him speak, and it was her turn to gently squeeze his hands with hers as she replied, "Perhaps it is partially your fault, I will not deny that, Remus. But the very fact that you are so obviously torn up about this, so upset... that is what tells me that you are a good man, that you're not a monster. You just had circumstances around you that you couldn't control." She squeezed his hand again, and then, hesitantly, one hand came up, allowing her fingers to slip under his chin for just a moment to lift his eyes to hers. "You do not deserve to be hunted, beast inside or not." Then she paused and added softly, "Besides, I don't even know if that's why they're hunting you, Remus. They didn't say anything about an attack, and I think they would have, if they could. 'Crimes Against Wizarding Society' is just the excuse they use when they need something to say!"
She slowly withdrew her fingers from his chin, settling them on his hand again. "So let me help you, please? I'll keep asking, you have no idea how persistent I can be." She smiled softly. "Look at you, Remus... you need somewhere to stay, you shouldn't be out in the words trying to fend for yourself and starving. If you keep up that way, you're just going to die... or grow too weak to help yourself and then they'll catch you." She paused and then said, "Stay at my place for tonight at least, if not a couple days. I'll feed you- lots of food, because you need it- and get you some clothes, and you can get cleaned up if you want. And you can get some real sleep, I can tell you need it. There's more wards on that place than you can count, you'll be safe there until I can find you somewhere else."
