"Sirius was a wonderful person. It's a shame what our society did to him," he said with an immense amount of sadness. He glanced down at his hands as she pulled back. He couldn't help but notice the way her touch sent a shiver through him. He attributed it to the fact he hadn't felt any sense of compassion in months and nothing else.
"I am aware. My neph..." He cleared his throat. "...I've been informed by an old friend. In ways, he's much like a nephew to me. I think of him as one." He didn't want to say Harry's name out of respect for him and his cause. He just thought it best to not mention any ties at this time.
He raised an eyebrow as she began to work through her emotions and the changes that were occurring in her memory. It was hard for him to watch, because he could sense the pain that was surging to the surface with the gravity of the information. His hand reached out slowly and cupped around hers in support as he gave a slow nod.
"Something is vastly wrong. I've watched people stand by and let our government go to the dogs, people who used to care so greatly about politics and freedom. I've believed for sometime now that something has happened, I just have been unable to figure out why I have not been affected. I attribute it to my true nature...I'm not like everyone else, after all," he said quietly.
"Ted is no longer with you?" He frowned at that thought. He couldn't imagine Andromeda and Nymphadora unaware of his disappearance. He took in a deep breath. "A spell? Perhaps."
Then he lifted his eyes to look into hers. "You're sweet, Dora." He gave her a half hearted smile, one that showed the pain he was feeling inside. It was clear from the look in his eyes, how they seemed to be a bit watery as the subject was brought up, that he did not believe he was innocent. "I'm a monster and I did something terrible," he whispered, full of guilt.
"I ruined this poor woman's life. She is never going to be the same. And it is my fault. I didn't try hard enough to lock myself away and I allowed myself to roam the woods free." His throat clenched up and he shut his eyes. "It is my fault...but I truly wished her no harm." He was silent for several moments. "I am a wolf, Tonks. It seems only just that I am hunted in return. That isn't to mean I'm going to go along willingly. No, I'll put up a fight. But I can't blame them for viewing me as a threat...especially after I proved I couldn't keep the beast hidden inside."
