"No!" The exclamation was hushed, but her hand immediately reached out to grab his wrist, not roughly but insistently. Holding him in the booth she said more softly, "Please, stay. I'm not- I'm not going to do anything or say anything, I promise. Just- please? Give me a minute, I need to- to-" She blinked rapidly. "-just think."
It almost seemed as if two vastly different personalities were warring in her head for a moment. One of them, the one that used to enjoy her job, that used to feel perfectly at ease, was telling her that this man was wanted for crimes against the wizarding world and should be brought in. But then there was that other side, the one that had been growing louder every day, the one that said something was wrong. And not something with him, no, something with her, and the place she worked, and the people she worked with. She suddenly found herself wondering, had this man even done anything wrong? She never would have questioned it before, but now she found herself doing so. Tonks had always prided herself on being able to read people, and this man sent off none of her warning bells. If anything, she had found herself opening up to him much quicker than she normally did. How could he be a criminal?
And then, looking up at him and thinking over the name again, she remembered something. "I know you. From when I was younger, I mean." Her brow furrowed for a moment and then a smile crossed her lips. "You were Sirius' friend! You gave me chocolate that one time I skinned my knee in the driveway and you used to tug on my pigtails and ask me to change the color for you. Blue, you always did like blue." Her smile widened and then she murmured again, "Please stay, Remus. I think... I think I can help you."
