He didn't know what the kiss meant, exactly, but...as far as kisses meant, it was a good one and full of meaning. Yes, Emmeline cared for him, and Kingsley felt a warmth and affection, from both of them, that had been their in the past repeatedly. It was a bit different, yet that was expected as they were kissing, as they knew a bit more what that meant. And Kingsley meant to continue to show at least the same level of affection as before, as long as she was comfortable with it.
And there they were, two former aurors a fair bit older than most anyone Kingsley knew who kissed over tables in public like that. And he liked it. It pushed the rest of the world, the dark in the world, away if only for a few moments. There was a whole world like this, possible, where people thought about loving each other and drinks at the end of a long day, and it was so good. That was the world they fought for. Kingsley wanted to kiss Emmeline again and again without worry for the next day, beyond what had been regular, though that felt foreign.
The kiss was better than flirting, had a depth to it that promised more, if he were lucky. And while there were a few kinds of lucky, Kingsley cared more about her than about getting her naked. He held onto her hand as they breathed again, and Kingsley couldn't remove the smile from his face. It was ridiculous, perhaps, but he liked it. "I would love to," Kingsley replied, "and if I thought that were the alcohol, I'd only put you to sleep, alone, with a hangover potion." Technically, he would still be taking her home, as they lived together, but he knew what she meant and hoped she knew what he meant too.
