"Exactly, there's no reason to get stuck in past things," his shoulders rolled to shake off the serious subject like he would a bad decision. Duke never invested much in anything besides those that already had his full attention like his family. He was already sacrificing for his sister and mother and he didn't need anything else keeping him so bogged down. That wasn't any fun.
"Excellent," he grinned, ordering plain rum for himself this time. "Ah, I couldn't possibly let someone buy me a drink and not return the favor. Especially if I'm continuing to drink with them." If, however, they were done, Duke would see no reason to be nice back. That implied that nothing was done completely selflessly and he hated to think of the world like that.
