Marek normally worked at the apothecary on Tuesdays, at least in the mornings, but he'd gotten the day off today. He had intended to work anyway, from home, the way he had done completely before taking the position at the apothecary. He had found since that working at the shop, and with Pansy for company, had drastically improved his productivity, even though it had been better before.
Which was probably why, when left to his own devices and on his birthday, he hadn't done any work at all. It didn't help that he knew Melinda was working right now, so getting to laze about on their birthday just felt like the absolute right thing to do, to rub it in her face later.
He hadn't really decided what he wanted to do with the day yet. He did want to see Felixa, but hadn't decided what to ask her to do; his birthday had sneaked up on him this year. He didn't even remember that she knew about his birthday until he answered his door and found her outside of it holding what looked like a gift.
He grinned at her, and claimed a kiss in greeting before she could say anything; it was his birthday, after all, and he really didn't think she'd mind. "Hello," he said, when he'd broken the kiss. "Did you know it was my birthday?"
