Millicent didn't mind her bringing the cat; she liked cats. She'd been unsure of her ability to take care of a kitten when Bayleigh offered it, but hadn't been able to say no. She was glad she had taken the kitten, though - now named Stripes - because he had been more willing to keep her company lately, while Claws tended to be more aloof.
As if on cue, Claws got up from her lap and jumped down from the couch, tail twitching in disregard for the emotional kitten playdate he probably suspected was about to happen. Millicent didn't pay much attention, she idly stroked Stripes and then stopped as he moved up on her knee to greet his sibling.
"Hey," she said. And then, because if she didn't explain soon she'd probably lose her nerve, "So, my mother's dead."
