Honestly, after a day of rather hectic happenings at the Ministry, the only thing Devlin felt like doing was lounging around with a large book - didn't matter if it were good or not - in the silence of his own flat. Silence after a day of yelling idiots was like a miracle; all that stupid buzzing finally shut up, everything back to its usual calm.
Taking the floo back home a bit later than he was required to - he always worked overtime, no matter if it were paid or not - he tugged off his shoes and placed them out of the way beside the fireplace. He took a deep breath, enjoy, finally, the comfort of such silence and calm. Stupid, stupid people. Oh well; he had a whole night of whatever relaxing he wanted to do ahead of him.
Picking out a rather thick tome from the shelves of books lining the room, he flopped down on the couch, letting out a sigh of contentment as his whole body relaxed into it. He let himself enjoy the niceness of doing nothing for a few minutes, then sat up enough to prop himself up with an arm on the arm of the couch and open his book.
He might have gotten in about twenty minutes of good old read and relaxing before he heard the fireplace activate and someone else stomping around in his house. Since no one shouted a greeting, he assumed it was Demelza. So much for a quiet night. Before he could bother to even get up enough bother to greet her she was on him, and Merlin, why the hell was she so hyper? He couldn't help an annoyed glare jumping to his face and he pondered how likely it was that she'd follow any limitation on visiting him hours he might suggest. He needed some time to himself, after all.
Lovely, she was also dirty. And smelled. And was rambling about a pretty explosion that he honestly couldn't care less about. There'd already been talk about it at work, and he'd had to run things back and forth for about an hour while they figured it all out - really, it was one of the last things he would want to talk about. Right, but he couldn't just tell her to leave, no matter how much he wanted to be alone then.
That didn't mean he had to have much to say, though. "Interesting," he managed to comment, face and voice both deadpanned. She did this far too much for him to be amused. "Hello to you, too."
