Theodore was more emotionally affected by what he was seeing now than by the things Blaine had said to him, but it still took some time to penetrate through for him to feel it. It might have been astonishing to some, how little he could make himself feel when it was necessary, and how useful that could be at times. Though other times, when he needed to empathize with someone, it only made things difficult.
"It's me," he said, keeping his hand where it was. He could initiate contact with her now, had been able to do so for a while without scaring her, but he knew instinctively that when she was scared like this, it was best to let her initiate it.
