"I believe in us. I believe in you," he reassured her. That was one thing he was certain about. He always believed in her. He let his thumb wipe away the tear and he continued to stroke her cheek, bowing his head for a moment.
"I know, I know..." He whispered, not daring to admit he wanted those things as well. He never did want to give them up. It wasn't a matter of choosing. In the midst of it all...as she avoided him...it happened. And it would be wrong to give up trying to be faithful, wouldn't it?
Or perhaps it was wrong to pretend he believed in such things when he knew in his heart he didn't. It wasn't about conquests or anything of that sort. It was the fact he generally believed that people shouldn't focus their love on just one person. That seemed selfish to him. Why couldn't he love more then one?
He sighed. This was going to get him confused again. He bowed his head. He let his hand slip, dropping it to her lap to pick up hers, which he clutched tightly. "We can work through this, for ourselves and for our baby," he assured her, hoping he was convincing.
