Who: Faramir and Denethor
What: more pre-trip advice!
when: Right after he spoke to Boromir and Miriel
Faramir: *makes his way towards the citadel entrance, a bit of determination in the set of his jaw*
Second set of steps: *falls in line with him, echoing from an unseen source but very audible*
Faramir: *slows and stops**waits patiently*
Denethor: *unseen, but audible, as if he's standing just next to Faramir, and speaking in an undertone* I hope you had planned on stopping in to say goodbye.
Faramir: It slipped my mind.
Denethor: *softly* You're very busy, I'm sure. Many things to consider as you head to Umbar.
Faramir: Will you too, advise me to watch my back?
Denethor: I think you've heard that admonition enough times. if it hasn't stuck yet nothing I say will make it stay.
Faramir: *chuckles* This is true. *Turns to 'face' the voice*
Denethor: *materializes, or seems to, but only because the place is in shadow; he is pale andthin and less substansive than usual, as if attempting to be polite and not frighten anyone should they happen to pass* Have you made a plan if you need to escape?
Faramir: I've studied some maps of the area, and there are routes I could take, that they would not expect us to.
Faramir: Of course that has it's own share of dangers.
Denethor: Are you prepared for if the witches of Umbar attempt to use magic to sway your mind?
Faramir: Assuming they have returned to the city, or are still trying to influence?
Denethor: The witches still have power, when I used the palantir I was accustomed to feeling the gaze of this or that thing sweep over the city. Now that I can see things I could not before, I see that the older of the two witches often uses dark magic to turn her gaze to this city this way and that. If she was truly out of favor she would not have the resources to do this.
Faramir: *nods his head* I will prepare myself on the journey, for such an eventuality.
Denethor: *doesn't want to... overadvise Faramir, doesn't want Faramir to think he finds him incapable*
Faramir: Any other concerns?
Denethor: Only the usual for a father watching his son going to a dangerous land.
Faramir: *smiles softly*
Denethor: I don't think they'll try to kill you. I think they'll try to ensnare you with magic, then send you back as their pawn.
Faramir: *nods his head**is confident in himself, but not letting himself be OVERconfident*
Denethor: ...I am confident in your ability to resolve this matter as much as it can be. But I do not think you can win peace with Umbar, and I would advise against trying to occupy that land.
Faramir: I do not wish to occupy Umbar, but I do believe we can have peace. Or at least stability and less hostilities. There is much work to be done in the lands between, and I intend to lay groundwork there as we pass - many of those people hold less love for Umbar than they do for us.
Denethor: There have been trade agreements in the past with Dol Amroth and Umbar -- something Imrahil and I never agreed on. It would perhaps be wise to angle for a diplomatic trading peace, as a starting place.
Faramir: That is one angle I will be pursuing, yes. *nods his head*
