"I hear the king eats well enough or you could bring a sausage on a stick."
Who: Amrothos and Essam
When: Current
Where: Minas Tirith, outside the foundations of a burned out house
What: Indy and Sallah! Essam helped Amrothos fulfill a mission for one of his pet projects and this is the aftermath of that event. They discuss Zaira, romance, and the knights.
Amrothos: *crawls out from underneath the house he had crawled under, dragging something with him* *covered in dust and old ash*
Essam: *pulls himself out after Amrothos, and unties a dusty cloth from around his head to shake out before retying it.* Do you think that worth the trouble, Amrothos? *curious*
Amrothos: If the deed is inside, absolutely. *has dragged out a little chest, batters at the partially-melted lock*
Amrothos: >.> On second thought why don't you. *offers Essam the hammer he was trying to hit the lock off with* *perches on a burned stump of what used to be a step*
Essam: <.< Very well then *takes the hammer and strikes at the little chest.* Let us see what you have managed to discover.
Amrothos: I'm telling you it's worth it! *pulls back the lid and blows dust and bits of char off the top of the chest, full of papers*
Essam: ...You might even have been right this time. *crouches down to help Amrothos sort through the papers*
Amrothos: *squinting at the documents* The boy told me we could keep anything we wanted as long as he got the deed, so if you see anything fancy, like, I don't know, treasure maps, help yourself.
Essam: That's promising. *digging around* We probably would be able to sell...*spies something shiny and is attracted like a moth to a flame, digs out a few jewels* Welll....Someone has been hiding THIS a while.
Amrothos: ...*eyes* That's one hell of a ruby. Look at the size of that thing! *shuffles through to the bottom to see if there's anything else* Thanks for coming with me, by the way. >.>
Essam: It was interesting. >.> I was surprised that you chose me of all the others that it could have been actually...*sort sort. finds a few men's rings, eyes speculatively for a second*
Amrothos: You're the one I think would have dragged me out if the house had collapsed on me. >.> Well Erchirion would have but he was busy. And Norno would do anything for my father but HE was busy...
Amrothos: ...and Aráto was busy... and Nandir was busy...
Amrothos: *ooh shinies, distracted* That one with the big sapphire would fit your hand nicely. If you ask me.
Essam: *shiny shinies....glances at the one in question.* Oh that IS quite nice *tries it on*
Amrothos: *approves* It says "I'm Dol Amrothian".
Essam: You're absolutely right. *weighing a ruby pendant in his hand, then dangles it at Amrothos in a obviously fake hypnotist act* How long have these things been here again?
Amrothos: Before the war. The boy said his warden buried them just before the siege but that he was too afraid to get them himself. He said all he wanted was the deed and we could keep the rest as payment.
Essam: Just think of all the things that you and I could DO with all of these. If you have a friend perhaps who could use presents..*Wink wink nudge nudge, know what I mean guv'nor*
Amrothos: >_>. Stop that. Where did you even hear that rumor?
Essam: Aráto. And your brother. And some of the others
Amrothos: *thinking about it though* ...think she'd like a shiny necklace? Or does that send the wrong message?
Essam: What message is it you INTEND to give her? *grins*
Amrothos: >_> I don't know. I want her to come back to Dol Amroth and have the baby there, where it's SAFE.
Essam: *pockets a second ring* Maybe something like this could sway her into doing so. If you were possibly...Surely there is SOME truth in the rumors along the way. It IS plain you care for her in some way or another...
Amrothos: ...well... I do care for her, very much. The last time I saw her, she kissed me... I said we'd talk about it later, over dinner, but then they took her away to the citadel. I only just learned that's where she got to.
Essam: Well then by all means, go to her there. I hear the king eats well enough or you could bring a sausage on a stick. *dry*
Amrothos: Essam. >.> I need advice.
Essam: *adjusts his position so he has an elbow on his knee* I have been known to dispense it. If I know about the subject...
Amrothos: I... care for her very much but I'm confused. *dangling various necklaces back and forth, trying to pick one* My father will kill me if I lay a finger on her and that's ALL I can think about.
Essam: He very well might. *pause* If you did that without consulting him. Particularly things being as they are now....
Amrothos: *sighs heavily* what am I supposed to say? Hello father, I fancy a friend of yours?
Essam: Well, better than to say after the fact that you two have...*eyedarts the smallest possible bit*
Amrothos: ...I'm not the father, if they're spreading that rumor. That's not why I care. *...just... feels he ought to point this out*
Essam: No, no that part has always been clear. To those who can count at least.
Amrothos: *sighs* Her man died just recently, left her with child, and I want to help her. And that's the part that's got me all addled.
Amrothos: It feels almost like exploitation to sweep in and promise her a fairytale life when I don't even know if what she needs is a friend or something else.
Amrothos: What if what she really needs is my friendship and by... playing around with heady things like emotions I only mess her up! What then?
Essam: Ahh... *looks down for a moment, debating whether or not to say this then sighs* I will say, that there was a time when I took someone's help to mean...that I should offer something more. I was confused myself, we didn't speak of it, and perhaps that was why...
Amrothos: You're advising me to talk to her, aren't you.
Amrothos: "Dear Zaira, I like you an awful lot, do you like me too or shall we just be friends for your mental health since you're pregnant and in bad times?"
Essam: check yes or no.
Essam: The thing is that, until you do speak of it, the possibility of that confusion still IS there. You can hardly go around hiding all of it forever can you? It is going to take both of you to decide what to do, not you alone.
Amrothos: but... but I don't want to hurt her feelings.
Amrothos: it would be easier to just... whisk her off to Dol Amroth.
Essam: Well yes, it probably would be that. Until she said she hated you for doing that. *little smirk* which would happen sooner or later. It's what women do.
Amrothos: Women say a lot of things. *grumbles*
Essam: *laughs* that they do
Amrothos: >.> So you think I should go talk to her and ask her what she really wants and needs.
Essam: And then before anything...undoable is done, to speak with your father *nods*
Amrothos: I'm doomed. *glumly*
Amrothos: I'll say it all wrong. I always do. These things are not my strength. I might as well tell Imrahil "I KISSED ZAIRA" and have my life ended for convenience. >.>.
Essam: <.< you COULD send her to tell him if it goes that way
Amrothos: Oh I mean do it before I do anything
Amrothos: And save myself the trouble.
Essam: Well in that case, he cannot kill you since nothing has been DONE.
Amrothos: ...*sighs* Let's finish then, then I'll go wash up and lather on some courage in the bath, shall I?
Essam: So long as you do not drown yourself in there.
Amrothos: I'm not going to drown myself. Anything you don't want from the chest I'm going to sell and give away. So pick out anything you want. >.>
Essam: >.> *resumes digging through it like a madman*
Amrothos: >.>
Amrothos: *still trying to decide which of two necklaces to give to Zaira* Think she'd like red or this yellow stone better? It's all gold like sunlight. *twirls amber in his hand. has never seen amber before.*
Essam: That yellow would suit her well. *nods firmly* and not so many women here COULD wear it. Though the red has its merits as well. Perhaps one now and then another...
Essam: *finds amongst the items a large cuff bracelet and pockets it with the other ring he found earlier*
Amrothos: >.> Presents for someone of your own?
Essam: Maybe someone you know, but maybe not
Amrothos: >.> don't forget I saw your little exchange in the shed.
Amrothos: *pockets the necklaces and a few other things for himself. well, actually, they're all for women. but uh...* If that's it we should deliver the will.
Essam: *stands up, brushing himself off* Yes, they will be waiting for that, won't they?
Amrothos: *pauses, then grins, as if putting Zaira out of his head for now* With proof they own the land, it's certain they'll be able to build a place to sleep.
Amrothos: And then I want to spend some of this money to buy looms and bring in a master weaver and teach them a trade...
Essam: *smiles at this* Always a need for one of those.
Amrothos: It was work well done. *pats Essam on the shoulder with a gesture both extravagant and excessive*
Essam: I fear you will have me accustomed to crawling through dark places with you soon. And then where will we be?
Amrothos: >_____>. *wouldn't mind that. er. what?*
Amrothos: *distracted.*
Amrothos: What was your question?
Essam: *smirks at Amrothos* I suppose you may call it an offer. *then turns serious* if you DO have need of me again though...
Amrothos: You'll be the first person I call when I want to crawl into a dirty hole searching for treasure.
Essam: *amused* I will look forward to that event in my future
Amrothos: >.> It might be sooner than you think.
Essam: Then I shall make a note to clear my schedule at a moment's notice that I will be free to crawl away into dark holes with you, Amrothos.
Amrothos: *...laughs, finally realizes how silly that sounds*
Essam: *laughs too* So decide what it is you want to do, the both of you.
Amrothos: Yes, sir.
Amrothos: You almost make me wish I'd been a knight.
Essam: You would have been an interesting one at that. Maybe the sort we need and have at the moment in one single undercaptain.
Amrothos: *laughs* Why not set the knights about to some kind of charitable work, to restore their faith in themselves, as tools of justice and good?
Amrothos: The war was arbitrary and cruel. and no one suffered more than those who fought.
Essam: I think most of them... *pause* If nothing else it would help someone else.
Amrothos: >.> that's the spirit. Shall I bring you a few projects?
Essam: >.> I think we would appreciate it, at least to see where these things go. Most of them once they have something...you were present for Arnatur, you know what I speak of...
Amrothos: *nods*
Amrothos: They need something to do. Something to feel strongly about.
Amrothos: >.> I'll find something. You can count on me. *goes to carry his chest of paper-goodies off to finish his strange little treasure-hunting deal*
Essam: >.> *goes off to do...whatever Essam does*
