THE DAILY PROPHET Evening Edition - 2 May 2003
TOP STORIES
→ Massacre in Godric’s Hollow A private home in Godric’s Hollow was destroyed early Saturday morning with no fewer than eight people inside. Evidence of Dark magic was found at the scene, along with the skull and snake symbol found at two previous murder scenes over the past week, which has quickly become what many believe to be the alleged mark of the Visitors.
“We’re sure this was no accident,” said Auror Rufus Scrimgeour in a public briefing Saturday morning. “The victims inside don’t seem to all be residents of the home, and the structures on either side of the rubble are intact, but no witnesses have come forward to help us piece the evidence together. Right now we’re concerned with finding and identifying the bodies inside. Once the families are alerted, we will release the names. Any suspects will be brought in for questioning posthaste.”
An anonymous source revealed exclusively to the Prophet that the Department of Magical Law Enforcement suspects the victims were killed before the house was destroyed, following the pattern established in the previous murders. “If it is one of the Visitors, they’re doing a bang up job of covering their tracks. We’ve had eyes on them from the beginning, and we’ll continue to watch them closely and work to establish a pattern in the attacks. So far, we haven’t found anything that indicates they’re responsible, other than the timing of it all.”
At least three of the bodies recovered so far have been identified as children.
→ Wizengamot Decision In the wake of the recent string of attacks many suspect to be the doing or influence of the Visitors, the Wizengamot has vowed to reach a decision on their status early this week. What that will mean for the Visitors and for Wizarding society as a whole, we at the Prophet cannot say, but given the intense debate surrounding the issue, the ruling will undoubtedly cause even more contention between the two opposing groups.
→ Skull Symbol Appears at Quidditch Games The skull and snake symbol attributed to the recent murders appeared above two British and Irish Quidditch League matches Saturday. The symbol appeared above the Chudley Cannons match against the Tutshill Tornados fourteen minutes in, but at the Ballycastle Bats against Puddlemere United, it only appeared after two hours of play. No injuries were reported. Despite a brief time-out called to investigate the symbols, gameplay continued shortly after both incidents. The Tornados bested the Cannons at 310-160, and the Bats emerged victorious against Puddlemere at 200-90.
